Sarah Michelle Gellar slips back into her iconic Buffy costume 23 years on

Feisty Sarah Michelle Gellar rolled back the years as Buffy The Vampire Slayer bit back in style 23 years on.

Fans of the hit show couldn't contain themselves as the 43-year-old made lockdown a whole lot easier.

No doubt many will be back binge-watching now thanks to her timely reminded about just how good the programme was.

Sarah dressed in her character's original prom dress - and fans loved it on Instagram.

The actress wore a trademark white dress and black leather jacket, even placing her hand on her hip, just like the old days.

She gave fans a trip down memory lane with this throwback snap (sarahmgellar/Instagram)

“All dressed up and no where to go. ‘I say we party,’” she wrote alongside the Insta snap, adding the hashtags #safeathome and #prophecygirl.

The show stopped in 1997 but that hasn't stopped fans getting all emotional.

They wanted more - and urged her to make this a regular lockdown event.

"Can you model a Buffy outfit weekly?" one pleaded.

But Sarah, who often communicates directly with fans, replied: "This might be all I have!"

Another fan said: "I couldn't love this more. Buffy is my quarantine binge - it makes me feel myself."

One posted: "Have you got those red leather pants laying around?"

She told  HuffPost  last year that seven seasons playing Buffy were enough for her - even though a reboot of the series is being considered.

“My story with Buffy about representing horrors of adolescence has been told,” she said.

“If there’s another story to tell, I think that’s awesome and will only eventually trace back to the original and people will probably realise that it’s not as good.”

“If there’s more story to tell, then tell it. But it just won’t be told with me.”
