Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer were dealt a huge blow as Sarah Michelle Gellar ruled out any return to the role.
The actress, 45, played the role of the monster slayer for seven seasons until 2003 and fans were clinging to a hope of a reunion series.
However, the blonde star believes her time on the show is well and truly over and any revival of the show would require a new star to take over the main role.
Speaking to SFX Magazine, she admitted there's no chance she will be back in front of the camera as the character. She said: "I am very proud of the show that we created, and (a revival) doesn’t need to be done. We wrapped that up.
"I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment. I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power.
"But like I said, the metaphors of Buffy were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I am not an adolescent."
If the show was to continue, the actress put her weight behind Zendaya taking up the lead role.
Last month, she also opened up on the "hostile" atmosphere she was often met with behind the scenes during filming.
She claimed that women were "pitied against each other" as women were deemed "threatening" if they formed friendships.
Sarah told The Wrap: "For so long, I was on a set that I think was known for being an extremely toxic male set.
"And so that was ingrained in my head that, that was what all sets were like, and that women were pitted against each other — that if women became friends, then we became too powerful, so you had to keep that down."
She went on to say that despite things getting better over the years, improvements must still be made to give women a voice.
Speaking to her Instagram followers at the time she confirmed she is currently focused on raising her family and "surviving a pandemic".
