Sarah Lavin ran a new personal best to make the semi-finals of the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships on Saturday.
The Limerick woman clocked 8.03 to take third and progress at the championships in Belgrade. She will now get ready for the semi-finals at 5.30pm this evening.
she told RTÉ Sport: "It's a proud day for me, my coach, my family, my friends, everyone who has helped me get here.
"To run a PB on the biggest stage... it's a bit of an ask to do it at 9am after being up so early, but I’m obviously thrilled and I’ll move on to this afternoon now. I'll sleep and eat."
There wasn't such good fortune though for Síofra Cléirigh-Buttner who finished fifth in her 800m heat [2:06:99], which was not enough to see her progress.
"Not only is it not good enough, but it's just not good at all," she said afterwards. "It's been a pretty sub-par indoor season for me. No excuses, you always want to come to the champs and be at your fittest and sharpest.
"It just wasn't good at all today."
In the men's 60m, Israel Olatunde took fourth in 6.66, the 19-year-old just missing out on making it through.
While Luke McCann [seventh in heat 1, 3:44:07] and Andrew Coscoran [fifth in heat 4, 3.40.53] failed to make it through in the 1500m.
