Sarah Lancashire's thoughtful gift to BBC Happy Valley co-stars with parting quote

Happy Valley fans will be waking up on Monday morning still gathering their thoughts on that epic finale. Millions of us have been on the edge of our seats for weeks as we watched the third and final series of the BBC One drama unfold.

The last ever outing of the gritty programme began on New Year's Day and saw Sergeant Catherine Cawood discover the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir - which sparked an unfortunate series of events that has led her back to Tommy Lee Royce, the father of her grandson Ryan and her late daughter's rapist.

And after weeks of tense moments as Tommy, played by James Norton, made an escape from prison, Sunday night's (February 5) last-ever episode saw us tuning in to the ending of Catherine's 30-year policing career. But it couldn't come without her facing the psycothpath for one final time.

Warning: Spoilers ahead...

The series finale got off to a brutal star as after deciding that killer Tommy was a liability after helping him to go into hiding when he escaped from court, mob boss Darius Knezevic's henchman arrived to silence him for good and urged him to climb into the boot of their car.

But it appears you can't kid a kidder as Tommy knew what they were up to and refused to get in the boot before heading back into his hideaway house, after spotting a can of petrol in the back of the car, to grab a kitchen knife. And viewers could barely watch as Tommy used the kitchen utensil to attack the thugs.

The bloody battles saw Tommy get away relatively unscathed - in the grand scheme of things - and he headed straight to Catherine's house where they very nearly came face-to-face when he broke in while she was having a nap. However, fans finally got the moment they had been waiting for when a neighbour alerted her to a smashed window at her home.

As she headed back inside she found Tommy sitting at her kitchen table, bloodied and bruised and having just taken a load of pills with alcohol. And in an unexpected turn of events, there was an emotional showdown between the pair as Tommy told Catherine he could finally see what she had done for his son Ryan, in raising him following the suicide of her daughter Becky, who he still claimed to have loved, as opposed to his delinquent childhood.

He then forgave her, he told her, for interfering in his and Becky's relationship. However, things still ended badly as he ended up setting himself on fire. Catherine jumped to his rescue before calmly leaving him in the hands of her colleagues and paramedics. It wasn't until the very end of the episode that she discovered Tommy had died from her injuries, just as she visited Becky's grave.

The scene marked the end of Happy Valley for good and to celebrate the end and success of the show, actress Sarah Lancashire teamed up with a Hebden Bridge-based company to prepare a "special gift" for the entire cast and crew. Sharing the news on social media, The Yorkshire Soap Company announced their latest creation, a Happy Valley candle, which was created with the help of the acclaimed actress, Yorkshire Live reports.

They wrote: "Some of you may know Happy Valley is set in our home town of Hebden Bridge and filmed across the wonderful county of Yorkshire! Whilst filming in town we had the pleasure of welcoming the amazing Sarah Lancashire into our shop, and over the summer of 2022 we worked together on a special gift from her to the entire cast and crew for wrapping the final season. A very Yorkshire Happy Valley Candle."

The candle's label also includes a quote from Sergeant Cawood herself that read: "I'm the best copper that ever lived but Code 11 ... job done." The company also revealed that Sarah donated her police hat and shoulder numbers from season three which helped raise £4,500 at a charity event organised by The Halifax Ukrainian Club.

The company added: "She deserves every award possible for her work on this brilliant series, and like the whole country, we'll be glued to the TV this Sunday for the final episode."
