Sarah Jessica Parker refuses to have Kim Cattrall back on And Just Like That after feud

Sarah Jessica Parker has dashed any fleeting hope Sex And the City fans had of seeing her character Carrie Bradshaw reunited with Samantha Jones on screen.

The actress, 56, said there was 'too much public history of feelings on her part', as she made a rare acknowledgement of her rumoured feud with former co-star Kim Cattrall when asked what the future holds for HBO reboot And Just Like That...

Viewers saw the series end on a note of optimism for Cattrall's return, as Carrie was seen asking her old pal Samantha out for cocktails in Paris.

However, a cosy reunion between Parker and Cattrall now looks extremely unlikely.

In a new interview for Variety, Parker, 56, was asked if she would be 'OK' if Cattrall could return to the fold, after she previously snubbed a part in the revamped series.

Parker did not hold back as she was asked 'if some miracle were to happen' would she allow Cattrall back?

She responded: "I don't think I would, because I think there's just too much public history of feelings on her part that she's shared.

"I haven't participated in or read articles, although people are inclined to let me know.," she added.

"We didn't go to Kim for this, you know," she went on.

"After we didn't do the movie and the studio couldn't meet what she wanted to do, we have to hear her and listen to her and what was important to her.

"It didn't fit into what was important or needed for us. There's a very distinct line between Samantha and Kim,' Parker explained.

"Samantha's not gone. Samantha's present, and I think was handled with such respect and elegance. She wasn't villainized. She was a human being who had feelings about a relationship, so I think we found a way to address it which was necessary and important for people that loved her."

Cattrall has previously denied making any demands that led to her turning down the chance to star in a third Sex and The City movie or the rebooted series.

The 'public history of feelings', Sarah Jessica alluded to could be in relation to Cattrall's fiery 2018 rant in which she slammed her co-star as 'cruel.'

The blistering attack was launched when Parker sent her condolences to Kim following the death of her brother by reaching out publicly on Instagram.

Cattrall fired back "You are not my friend."

She told Parker her 'continual reaching out' was 'a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now.'

“You are not my family. You are not my friend" Kim went on and urged Parker to “stop exploiting our tragedy.”

Kim's brother Chris, 55, was found dead in February 2018 after going missing from his home in Alberta, Canada.

Before Kim's public bashing of her co-star, there had been rumours of an ongoing feud behind the set of the HBO's Sex And the City which came to an end in 2004.

Speaking on Piers Morgan's Life Stories about her time on the show, Kim said 'we were never friends' and described her relationships with her fellow actors as 'toxic'.

Taking aim specifically at Parker, Cattrall said: "I think she could have been nicer. I don't know what her issue is.

"The thing that still bothers me is being made to be the baddy. I never asked for any money or any projects. To be thought of as some sort of diva is absolutely ridiculous."

Piers asked if she was ever 'tempted' to make a third movie.

Kim said she told producers it was a 'firm' Thank you but no.'

"This isn't about more money or more scenes, it's not about any of those things."

Kim said she wanted to simply close one chapter and start another.

Sarah Jessica Parker's recent comments appear to mirror that of executive producer Michael Patrick King, who said this week that Kim does not have an open invitation to return to spin-off And Just Like That....

When asked if he was “keeping the door open” for Samantha's return, the producer insisted: "No. Just like there was no thought that Kim would ever participate in And Just Like That, because she’s said what she had said."

The TV guru told Variety that And Just Like That fans should squash any hopes of Kim ever appearing on the show - because she most definitely won't.

"The only place I participate in magical thinking is in fiction,” he continued.

"You take people at their word, and you’re a smart producer - you don’t back yourself into a corner.

"Magically thinking, it’s great to have Samantha. I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattrall ever appearing again.”
