NDTV anchor and senior editor Sarah Jacob has resigned from the news channel. Jacob, who has worked at NDTV for over 20 years, also hosts the show We The People.
In an email to NDTV staffers, Jacob described NDTV as an “amazing newsroom filled with the most creative and driven reporters”.
“I cannot thank you enough,” she wrote. “Working with the best in the business has been an honour.”
Newslaundry reached out to Jacob for comment; this report will be updated if she responds. She later tweeted saying she resigned last night and is “forever grateful for all that NDTV gave me and continues to offer”.
Jacob’s resignation follows an NDTV clip going viral on social media yesterday. It showed Jacob anchoring a news story on how prime minister Narendra Modi “shows respect towards women”. You can watch it here:
Jacob’s is just the latest in a series of resignations from NDTV following the channel’s takeover by the Adani group. Prannoy and Radhika Roy quit as directors of the board of NDTV promoter RRPRH last November. A day later, noted journalist Ravish Kumar resigned from the channel.
In early January, the channel’s group president Suparna Singh resigned, as did chief strategy officer Arijit Chatterjee and chief technology and product officer Kawaljit Singh Bedi. Sreenivasan Jain then announced that his three-decade journey with NDTV had come to an end. Three days later, Nidhi Razdan tweeted her resignation too.
Watch Newslaundry’s interview with Ravish on why his decision to quit wasn’t “just emotional”.
