Sarah Ferguson says ex Prince Andrew is 'good, kind man' who needs to come out of spotlight to 'rebuild his life'

Sarah Ferguson has branded her ex-husband Prince Andrew a 'good, kind man' and says the spotlight needs to come off him so he can 'rebuild his life'.

The Duchess of York appeared on Good Morning Britain earlier on today to talk about all things Royal Family ahead of King Charles' Coronation.

Fergie joined Kate Garraway and Adil Ray on the ITV show, where she spoke about her ex-husband Prince Andrew

Adil went on to ask about Fergie's ex-husband. He said: "Prince Andrew has had a very difficult year and you've been very open and honest about standing by him, he's your ex-husband. Is that the sort of thing you're saying to him? That he's got to keep going?"

She said: "I told him the other say that he should talk to the Pilgrim Bandits who are an extraordinary group of SAS veterans, who have been through extremely difficult times...

"I think it's important to focus on what you can do to bring others a bit of joy that are in less fortunate positions than yourself.

"And with Prince Andrew, he's such a good man. He's a kind, good man. I think that the spotlight needs to come off him and let him get on with his life to rebuild."

She added: "He's a very good grandfather, he's amazing."

Prince Andrew has been 'in the spotlight' as Virginia Giuffre brought a civil case alleging Andrew had sex with her on three occasions in 2001 when she was 17.

Fergie said her ex-husband is a 'good, kind man' (ITV grab)

According to reports, Prince Andrew has amassed a £10million 'war chest' to launch a legal case against Ms Giuffre.

Prince Andrew has always denied the allegations but settled a US civil sex abuse case with Ms Giuffre outside of court for a reported £12million. The settlement is not an admission of guilt by Andrew, who continues to deny any wrongdoing.

Earlier this year, his ex-girlfriend Lady Victoria Hervey appeared on ITV's Lorraine to defend him.

Talking about the £12m settlement, Lorraine said: "So he has always denied it, all these allegations, so why on earth did he pay her off? Why do you think he paid her off?"

Lady Hervey replied: "In my opinion, from what I know, he didn't have a choice, he was forced to not.. He basically didn't get his day in court and was not allowed to fight.

Lorraine got into a feisty debate with Lady Victoria (ITV grab)

Lorraine asked: "Who would have forced him though? For someone like him, from what we know of his character, who would have actually had the power to say to him, 'you're not doing this'".

And she replied: "Well who do you think?

Lorraine shrugged: "Well I don't know?"

Victoria said: "Buckingham Palace."

Lorraine replied: "Yeah? You think?"

And Victoria said: "I do. I think it was Buckingham Palace that put the pressure on him and he basically wasn't allowed to fight it.

Lorraine then put it to Lady Victoria that Prince Andrew would surely know the consequences of his actions of settling.

Lady Victoria replied: "Actually, I think the titles were supposed to be given back to him, they were never officially going to be taken away, they were only going to be briefly taken away whilst it was going to be fought, when he was going to be a private citizen in court.

Lorraine said: "At the end of the day, he paid money to make this go away."

Lady Hervey replied: "At the end of the day he says he's never met her and he's always stood by that, even when they did settle, he didn't apologise, why would he apologise?"

Lorraine replied: "That's the bizarre thing though and you must admit he made a massive colossal error by doing that interview and the way he came across in that interview, is that the man you know?

"Well He is not media trained, this is the problem."

And Lorraine hit back: "But he's been doing that job for years, he should by now? You don't need to be media trained to sit and have empathy with people who have went through a terrible, terrible ordeal. There was no empathy, there was no 'I'm sorry for the victims of this man'..."
