Sarah Ferguson has shared a heartfelt personal tribute to her close friend Lisa Marie Presley following news of her untimely death.
News of Presley's death surfaced on Thursday night after the 54-year-old suffered a suspected cardiac arrest just two days after attending the Golden Globes.
Her death has shocked those around the globe including her friend Fergie, the Duchess of York, who grew close with the late music legend Elvis' daughter after spending much of her time in the US following her split and subsequent divorce from Prince Andrew.
Taking to Twitter Fergie described Lisa Marie as a 'devoted friend' who she affectionately called her 'sissy'.
Posting a picture of the pair in a cheek to check embrace, she penned: "You have been my devoted friend for many years and I am here for your family to support and love them. I am deeply saddened my sissy, you are in my heart."
As hinted in her deeply personal tribute the royal and the Presley families have become intertwined with their friendships spanning two generations.
Details of their friendship were further made public following the death of Lisa Marie's late husband, Michael Jackson.
"They have become very close," a source told at the time.
"It may seem an odd combination but they get on very well and have lots in common."
And following the death of Lisa Marie's son — Elvis' grandson Benjamin Keough who took his own life in July 2020 at the age of 27 — Fergie once again was there for the family.
Taking to Instagram to share a photo of herself with Lisa Marie, Sarah touched on her own troubles whilst reflecting on the singers tragic loss and offering insight into their friendship.
"You stayed with me in my darkest moment and I am here in Yours .. love you my sister Lisa Marie .. wherever, whatever I am with you, in all steadfastness," Sarah wrote.
Lisa is also known to have attended the Duchess' 50th birthday in 2009 as well as her daughter Beatrice's 21st birthday.
In another post at the time she penned: “Dearest Lisa Marie, Finley, Harper and Riley. You have a family here.
“I love you and will never stop loving my sissy @LisaPresley.”
Benjamin was the younger of her two children Lisa Marie Presley had with her first husband, musician Danny Keough, before their divorce in 1994.
The other is actress Riley Keough, 31.
