Sarah Beeny tearfully vows ‘I’m just not gonna die’ in new doc detailing breast cancer battle

Sarah Beeny tearfully vowed to not “die” as she detailed her gruelling breast cancer battle in a new Channel 4 documentary.

In Sarah Beeny vs Cancer, the property expert’s deeply personal film set to air on Monday, viewers will watch as she explores breast cancer treatment in the UK, while also grappling with her own fight against the disease.

The Channel 4 star bravely invited cameras into her home just two weeks after three lumps were discovered in her left breast.

After learning of the news, Beeny tearfully vows in scenes seen by the Independent: “I’m just not gonna die, you do know that. I’ve got a whole life. I need it. I’ve got four children. People need their mother. The truth is, I kind of needed my mother.”

The TV star’s mother died of breast cancer at 39, when she was just 10, and reveals in the documentary that she had been waiting her whole life to hear that she had cancer.

The film also follows Beeny at various stages of her chemotherapy including the emotional moment she decided to let her sons cut her hair short after it began falling out in clumps.

The impact of her diagnosis on her family is articulated by her partner Graham Swift in the doc, who shares the worries he has experienced as she begins treatment.

The artist tells the cameras: “F*** yeah, there are sleepless nights. It’s really hard. It’s horrible.”

Nearing the end of the one-off, Beeny, who has been given the all-clear, urges people to get checked: “The chances of surviving breast cancer have doubled in the past 40 years, and that only gets better and better the more that is understood.

“So many people are so scared. It’s that fear that keeps a lot of people away from going and checking things out and getting treatment.

“So, trust your body and go and get it checked out at a proper breast clinic.

“If you get the diagnosis that I got eight months ago, my message would be just don’t be afraid. Because amazing people are doing amazing things and the outlook is getting better every day.”
