Saoirse Ruane's family confirm new cancer treatment will begin in weeks

Saoirse Ruane's family have confirmed her latest cancer treatment will begin in weeks after receiving a difficult diagnosis earlier this month.

The Toy Show guest was told by doctors she had a new tumour which would require medical intervention. The 11-year-old previously battled osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, which resulted in the amputation of her leg.

Saoirse's mother Roseanna took to Instagram to thank people for their kind messages and shared an update with followers on her daughter's condition. Roseanna said the family met with doctors in Dublin and agreed that Saoirse would start cancer treatment in a number of weeks.

The mum wrote on Instagram: "We travelled to Dublin last week for a lengthy meeting with our team and since then we have been taking time to absorb the outcome of same. This next phase of treatment will be Saoirse's biggest battle to date and it breaks our hearts to watch her go through all this trauma again."

There has been a public outpouring of support for Saoirse following the news of her health setback. The young girl received countless letters in the post following an appeal from Ryan Tubridy on his RTE radio show.

Roseanna described her daughter as a "force" in her statement and said her family would be there with her every step of the way during treatment. She also asked people to keep Saoirse in their prayers going forward as she fights her diagnosis.
