The Santa Monica Police Department has reported the arrest of more than 40 individuals within the city's evacuation zone since January 7. Notably, none of those arrested are residents of Santa Monica.
According to a press release issued by the department on Monday, law enforcement officers have encountered and stopped hundreds of individuals within the evacuation zones. All of the arrests made were due to violations of the legal emergency orders in place.
Of the individuals taken into custody, ten were arrested for burglary offenses. The remaining arrests were related to various infractions, such as curfew violations, drug possession, driving offenses, outstanding warrants, and parole or probation violations.
Police Chief Ramon Batista expressed his appreciation for the dedication and professionalism exhibited by the officers and staff of the Santa Monica Police Department. He also acknowledged the support received from mutual aid partners in carrying out these enforcement actions.
