Newcastle United's move for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali could inadvertently help secure Arsenal a significant transfer windfall.
As per the Guardian, the Magpies are pushing to complete the signing of Tonali during the summer transfer window, with a move expected to cost €70million (£60million) plus add-ons. That transfer has now been officially announced with Tonali signing a six-year contract at St James Park with the sale resulting in him becoming the most expensive Italian player in history.
The Serie A giants, along with rivals Inter Milan, Napoli and Premier League side Crystal Palace, have been heavily linked with a move for Gunners striker Folarin Balogun in recent times. Balogun is expected to leave the north London club on a permanent basis after his successful loan spell at Reims in France.
football.london understands the USMNT international will be free to leave in search of more game time after a hugely impressive 2022/23 campaign in Ligue 1, where he netted 21 times in the league - a tally that reads even more impressive when you consider that he is still 21-years-old.
Arsenal are said to be demanding around £35million if they are to part ways with the young frontman this summer, money that could come more easily to Milan now the deal for Tonali has gone through. Balogun admitted after the USA's win in the Nations League final that he had no intention of going on loan again next term.
