She may be one of the nation’s favourite TV hosts – but Sandi Toksvig would like to bin her glittering career to become a teacher.
The Danish-born Great British Bake Off presenter admits: “I’d like to not be in the public eye and teach.”
Cambridge University graduate Sandi continues: “I’d like to teach women’s history, that would be wonderful. But I still have a mortgage.
“A mortgage and expensive children. So, you know, good luck with that! But meanwhile, I’ll carry on making very nice programmes and writing books.”
At 63, she is one of a very small group of women who are fronting prime-time game shows.

She says: “It’s ridiculous because it’s not that difficult a job It’s easier asking the questions than trying to answer them. No question about it.”
Sandi – whose showbiz career has spanned four decades – is back on the box tonight with a new series for Channel 4 called Can I Improve My Memory?
The four-parter takes EastEnders actress Nina Wadia, TV host Anna Richardson, former boxer Chris Eubank and Love Island ’s Amber Gill and tries to teach them different ways to retain information

Their new skills are then tested by Sandi in a quick-fire quiz.
Sandi, who keeps her brain sharp by doing puzzles every morning, says: “It’s a mixture of watching people learn a new skill, which you could learn as well, and a competition.”
