The San Jose Sharks have announced that rookie forward Macklin Celebrini has been placed on the injured reserve list due to a lower-body injury. This decision comes following Celebrini's impressive debut performance, where he notched a goal and an assist in an overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues.
Celebrini, who was selected as the first overall pick in June, is a key player in the Sharks' rebuilding efforts. Despite being hampered by a lower-body injury during the preseason, the 18-year-old forward has shown promise and potential.
According to Coach Ryan Warsofsky, Celebrini's injury status is currently listed as week to week. As per NHL rules, players on injured reserve must sit out for a minimum of seven days from their last game played.
In his debut game, Celebrini made history by becoming the youngest player in NHL history to record two points in the first period. His achievement at 18 years and 119 days surpassed the previous record held by Shane Doan. Additionally, Celebrini scored the second-fastest first goal ever for a No. 1 pick, with his goal coming just 7:01 into the game.
Before joining the Sharks, Celebrini had an outstanding collegiate career at Boston University, where he tallied 64 points in 38 games and was honored with the prestigious Hobey Baker Award as the top college player.
The San Jose Sharks are hopeful for Celebrini's swift recovery and look forward to his return to the ice to continue making an impact on the team's performance.
