Samsung’s Wild 49-inch Odyssey G9 OLED Monitor Is Up For Preorder Now

In 2022, Samsung delivered one of the wildest monitors, or as they called it, a “screen,” for 2023; the technology giant is seemingly trying to top it. The nearly equally expensive Odyssey OLED G9 is the world’s first 49-inch OLED monitor, meaning colors will pop and contrast points will be stark for an immersive experience.

It’s up for preorder at $2,199.99, but just like the Odyssey Ark, there is a deal to be had. It gets an instant $300 discount off the $2,499.99 MSRP, and Samsung is also tossing in a $250 gift card.

Ahead we’re breaking down everything you need to know about Samsung’s  (SSNLF)  latest gaming monitor, but if you’re already sold, you can head over and preorder it now.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC Gaming Monitor: What You Need to Know

Samsung

Get it.

Unlike the Odyssey Ark, which boasts a 55-inch rotating display, the Odyssey G9 is a more classic gaming monitor experience. It’s a 49-inch curved screen set in a 32:9 aspect ratio, so if you place it on a desk, it will be subtly curved around you for added immersion.

Now the difference between this and other curved monitors is the QD-OLED panel. Each pixel is self-powered and illuminating, which lets this have a super bright spot next to total darkness without any leakage or blooming. The addition of “Quantum Dots” also gives the overall panel a higher peak brightness. Controlling this fairly massive screen is a Neo Quantum Processor Pro, similar to what is in Samsung’s OLED and Neo QLED TVs.

The display should be immersive and a joy to take in content or to game on. For instance, in Forza Horizon, you could feel like you were truly in the cockpit, and for open-world games, you get an expansive view. Of course, considering the price, Samsung’s Odyssey G9 is also fit for other applications; imagine scrolling an Excel sheet on it.

The Odyssey G9 packs a punch with a bevy of specs and standards met as well. It supports AMD FreeSync Pro and features a 240Hz adaptive refresh rate and a 0.03-millisecond response time, all at a 5,120 x 1,440 resolution.

Samsung’s Gaming Hub is integrated for easy adjustments and access to services like Xbox Game Pass and Amazon Luna. You can connect devices like a PS5 or Xbox Series X console via HDMI 2.1 or computers through a USB Hub.

Like any good gaming monitor, Samsung’s also added an array of LEDs on the back to let you customize the look. It can even emit a glow that matches whatever you’re playing on the screen.

Who’s Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 Monitor For?

Samsung

At $2,199.99, down from $2,499.99, Samsung’s Odyssey OLED G9 Gaming Monitor is a luxury, splurge piece of tech. Most other OLED monitors are priced in this range and deliver a super-immersive experience with incredible visuals, so we have high hopes for the Odyssey G9. It ultimately just depends on how much you’re looking to spend.

Take into account the additional discount and the bonus $250 gift card during this pre-order window, and it's even more attractive.

If you’re looking to spend a little less but still want a massive screen, Samsung’s Odyssey Ark is on sale at $1,999.99—about $200 less than the G9. Fair warning, you’ll need a lot of space for a 55-inch monitor, though.

Samsung’s 49-inch Odyssey CRG9 offers a similar feature set to the new OLED G9 but does it with a 120Hz QLED—Quantum Dot LED—panel for $1,199.99 and ships sooner.
