Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: release date, features and what to expect from the ultra-thin flagship

Flagship phones keep getting chunkier. The priciest models from Apple, Google and OnePlus are thicker, heavier and come loaded with more power than ever.

But what if you’re someone who pines for the days of slimmer, lighter devices that don’t feel like they’re weighing you down?

Well, you’re in luck. The next big thing promises to be sleek and lightweight and — here’s the kicker — without ditching modern must-haves like a big screen and the latest processor.

It’s called the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and it could be released as soon as the spring.

Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming phone that’s set to blow the competition away.

What is the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge?

As its name implies, the Edge is part of the Galaxy S25 range of flagship phones. Samsung had the device on display in January at its Unpacked event — and boy, it looked slick. With its matte titanium sides and barely-there borders, the S25 Edge has the makings of a high-end flagship.

It also serves as a bit of a reboot. You’d have to rewind to 2015 for the original Galaxy S6 Edge, a groundbreaking device that brought curved displays into the mainstream.

How thin is the S25 Edge?

However, size is the focus this time. The S25 Edge reportedly measures a mere 5.844mm in thickness, making it one of the slimmest flat phones on the market. The only slimmer models are foldables including the Oppo Find N5 (an eye-popping 4.2mm) and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (5.6mm).

How much does the S25 Edge weigh?

The Edge weighs less than the 162g S25, despite boasting a larger 6.6-inch screen that brings it closer to the S25 Plus’s size.

To put that into perspective, the Edge could be more than 60g lighter than the iPhone 16 Pro Max — and 2.5mm thinner. That would also make it more compact than the S25 Ultra, which has similar proportions to Apple’s ultra-flagship.

Not to get hyperbolic, but the Edge could be the MacBook Air of smartphones (or, perhaps, the Samsung Galaxy Book Edge is a more fitting comparison).

That is, of course, until the rumoured iPhone 17 Air arrives. Yes, Apple is reportedly working on its ultra-lightweight contender, but Samsung is primed to beat it to the punch — just like it did with folding phones.

How big is the battery?

So, what’s the catch? Surely, Samsung sacrificed something at the altar of aesthetical elegance. We have an inkling, but you probably won’t like it.

The Edge reportedly packs a 3,900 mAh battery, which matches the one in the two-year-old S23. It is slightly smaller than the S25’s but has a smaller 6.2-inch display.

What processor does it have?

We’ll hold off judgment until it’s out in the wild.

Battery size is a key indicator of how long a phone will last on a single charge, but the processor is just as crucial.

If the Edge has the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip as the S25 Ultra, it should easily handle a top-notch display, buttery smooth resolution, and effortless multitasking. Meanwhile, it will offer enough juice to keep you going.

How many cameras does it have?

The two rear cameras (versus three and four on the S25 and S25 Ultra, respectively) might have helped Samsung to reduce its weight. Specifically, we’re looking at a 200-megapixel main lens and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide.

Most of the phone’s features were outed in a convincing spec sheet, while several reputable leakers (including the prolific Ice Universe) have revealed its alleged dimensions.

So, when can you buy it?

April or May seem most likely. Samsung must find a place for the Edge, especially with its overflowing line-up.

Summer is locked in for new foldables and the more budget-friendly S25 FE will likely drop in September or October. That leaves spring as the ideal window for the Edge.

The phone also popped up in the GSMA IMEI database in November, as Smartprix spotted. According to the site, Samsung devices usually hit the registry about six months before launch — putting May firmly in the frame.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge rumoured price

Given its premium specs and design, we’d wager that the S25 Edge sits between the Galaxy S25 Plus (£999) and the S25 Ultra (£1,249). Therefore, £1,099 could be the sweet spot for the new model.
