On Thursday night, one of the truly rare things in sports will occur when Game 5 of the World Series takes place at the same time as Thursday Night Football — and Philadelphia and Houston teams play in both games.
It’ll be just the seventh time ever that a World Series and NFL game takes place on the same day involving the same two metro areas, according to ELIAS.
That also means it’s time for bettors to get crazy with parlays they never thought possible. Below, I put together my favorite low-risk, medium-risk and high-risk two-leg parlays from tonight’s action between the Astros and Phillies, and Eagles and Texans.
(Odds from BetMGM)
1
Low risk: Astros over 2.5 runs (-275) + Eagles moneyline (-800)
Parlay odds: -188
Let’s get to the most low-risk part of this parlay, and that’s the Eagles moneyline. Though it’s Thursday night, and weird things happen in Thursday football games, this is easily the most lopsided matchup of the year. You may question whether the Eagles cover a 14-point spread, but nobody is questioning if they’ll win.
The Astros line is riskier, but it also has incredibly short odds for a reason. With the exception of a shutout in Game 3, the Astros have scored five runs in every game of the World Series. Taking them to get three in a game the Phillies are starting a back-end rotation guy is a good bet.
2
Medium risk: Kyle Schwarber over 0.5 hits (-130) + Davis Mills over 0.5 interceptions (-185)
Parlay odds: +172
For our medium risk bet, we turn to player props, and I’ll roll with Kyle Schwarber’s odds to get a hit. His average is just .231 in the World Series, which isn’t great by any means, but it still ranks second on the team. His .412 OBP is the highest. So he’s seeing the ball well, and as the top batter in the order, he’ll potentially have more cracks than others with shorter odds.
Then we turn to Davis Mills, who’s quarterbacking a team projected to start *checks notes* Phillip Dorsett, Chris Moore and Tyron Johnson at wide receiver … against a very tough Eagles secondary. Considering Philly can also run up the score, he may be forced to pass a lot.
3
High risk: Yordan Álvarez over 0.5 home runs (+300) + Miles Sanders 1st TD scorer (+550)
Parlay odds: +2500
These are the big boy odds right here. Scared money won’t make money, so let’s swing for the fences with Yordan Álvarez to hit his first home run of the World Series. He is in a major slump right now, batting just .133 in the series, but Álvarez still only needs a little contact to send a ball flying 450 feet. I got a sneaky feeling Thursday is the night he gets his first since the ALDS.
And to sweeten it, we’re adding Miles Sanders’ odds to score the first touchdown of Thursday Night Football. The Texans have allowed 10 touchdowns to running backs this season vs. just four to wide receivers and tight ends combined. So the question for me isn’t whether Sanders scores, it’s if he can score before Jalen Hurts or another Eagles back beats him to it.
