Rohan Smith has confirmed Leeds Rhinos' contract talks with Sam Walters have collapsed, with a move to Wigan Warriors on the agenda. Rugby League Live revealed on Saturday that Walters would depart Headingley at the end of the season, with this weekend's opponents expected to secure him for 2024.
When questioned on Walters' future, Smith stated the club had offered an upgraded contract in an attempt to retain the forward, but admitted talks had now come to a close.
"We made Sam a really strong offer," Smith said. "A long-term offer, a massive upgrade on his previous contract and that's where the conversation came to an end. I'm not sure where he's going to end up."

Asked if he was resigned to losing the Academy graduate, Smith said: "That's where it is at the moment, yes. That's something you'd have to take up with Sam his management."
The club has talks ongoing with the likes of Aidan Sezer, James Bentley and Blake Austin, but Smith stated that no resolutions had currently been found.
"Nothing is settled, those conversations will continue to happen and when there's an update, there will be an update."
