Sam Smith says something 'really wrong' with voice after stopping concert

Singer Sam Smith has apologised after stopping a concert just four songs in and walking off stage. The concert was suddenly cancelled during the performance at the AO Arena in Manchester on Wednesday night. It is unclear if the show will be rescheduled or what this means for the remainder of the UK tour - named Gloria.

Fans thought there had been a power cut when the lights were dimmed at the start of the concert. An announcement then asked everyone to leave as the rest of the show had been cancelled.

The singer then posted a statement explaining that they had recently battled a virus and that there was 'something wrong' with their voice, adding they were 'heartbroken' at being unable to finish, reports MEN.

In their Instagram story, the singer wrote: "Dearest sailors, I don't know what to say honestly. I fought off a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have travelled across Europe and had such incredible shows.

"Today in soundcheck I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end.

"During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong.

"I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won't. I am honestly heartbroken I couldn't finish the show tonight for you all. I love you all. I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry x"
