Sam Smith fans 'disappointed' as singer cancels more shows after sudden end to Manchester gig

Sam Smith fans have been left 'gutted' and 'disappointed' after the pop star announced their upcoming shows have been cancelled. It comes after the 31-year-old suddenly exited the stage and cancelled their Manchester gig last night after four songs.

Following the star's exit from the stage, fans reported that the lights dimmed for around 20 minutes. Many speculated there had been a 'power cut' before they were informed the show had been cancelled due to reported 'vocal issues'.

Many took to social media to share their heartbreak - especially as the musician teased a collaboration with Madonna just hours before the show. Videos of the night show crowds loitering around Manchester’s AO Arena and slowly leaving with the lights up.

Sam issued a statement on their Instagram account shortly after. They said: "Dearest sailors, I don’t know what to say honestly. I fought off a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have travelled across Europe and had such incredible shows.

"Today in soundcheck I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end. During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong.

"I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won’t. I am honestly heartbroken I couldn’t finish the show tonight for you all. I love you all. I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry x."

Williambyrne_ tweeted: "Sam Smith show in Manchester has been cancelled due to their voice - hope everything is okay @samsmith." Ariana_fan452 added: "Approximately less than 10 minutes before @samsmith cancelled the #Manchester show last night. Teasing us with a special surprise performance of their new song. The only surprise we got was the show ending after 4 songs…"

However, fans have been devastated again as the artist revealed this afternoon (May 25) that their Birmingham and Glasgow shows have also now been cancelled, with refunds to be offered for ticket holders - including for the Manchester concert.

Taking to their Instagram Story, they wrote: "Due to vocal issues during last night's Manchester performance, regrettably we will be cancelling the rescheduled Birmingham and Glasgow Sam Smith shows. Refunds will be available at point of purchase for all three dates; Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

"A spokesperson said 'doctors have advised due to a vocal chord injury, Sam must have complete vocal rest. Sam is heartbroken to have had to cancel these shows but they have been told by doctors that if they keep singing they will do permeant damage to their voice. If they take some rest they will be able to perform again. I'm so sorry."

Replying to the news on Twitter, Xmaisssx said: "I’m so gutted, rescheduled and then cancelled. I have been excited ever since I got tickets last year." Millielovesross added: "Hope they feel better soon but I’m so disappointed:((( hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to see them at some point."
