Sam Lloyd death: Scrubs cast members, led by Zach Braff, pay tribute to co-star

Zach Braff has led the tributes to his Scrubs co-star Sam Lloyd, who has died aged 56.

Lloyd, who played bumbling lawyer Ted Buckland in the hit medical sitcom, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and lung cancer in 2019.

After his representative confirmed the news, Lloyd’s fellow Scrubs actors hailed him as one of the “funniest” people they have ever worked with.

Braff wrote on Twitter: “Rest in Peace to one of the funniest actors I’ve ever had the joy of working with.

“Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy.”

He also shared a video of Lloyd’s a capella band The Blanks performing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.

Kate Micucci, who played Ted’s girlfriend Stephanie Gooch in the series, wrote: “So sad to hear the news about Sam. [He] was one of the warmest, funniest and most generous actors I’ve ever worked with. I loved getting to sing with him and it was an honour to play his girlfriend on Scrubs. He will be so missed.”

Elliot Reid actor Sarah Chalke wrote: “Oh Sam...I feel so lucky I got the chance to know and work with you. You were the the kindest, funniest man. Sending so much love to your family. Rest In Peace.

Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, also paid tribute, writing: “Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many.”

Lloyd is survived by his wife Vanessa and his son Weston, who was born shortly after Lloyd’s diagnosis in 2019
