There was a collective shuddering of fear on Thursday when the Detroit Lions injury report listed Sam LaPorta as sitting out with a calf injury. The rookie phenom had no prior indication of any ailment and was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice.
LaPorta’s absence on Thursday was apparently nothing serious. He was back at practice on Friday and looked fine. LaPorta was not wearing any protective sleeve or gear on the calf.
Before practice, head coach Dan Campbell indicated that LaPorta had “a little bit of a strain.”
After practice, LaPorta told reporters that he initially felt the strain in Sunday’s win over Carolina and that it flared up in Wednesday’s practice. He said “the plan” is to play on Sunday.
Good news: from the portion of practice we were able to watch, Sam LaPorta looks like he is moving well. No wrap on his calf, where Dan Campbell said he had a strain. pic.twitter.com/F6mb5FoJKd
