Sam Kerr Appears In London Court Over Alleged Racially Aggravated Attack Of Police Officer

Matildas legend and Chelsea star player Sam Kerr has appeared in a London court over charges of alleged racially aggravated harassment of a police officer in London back in 2023.

As you might recall, the alleged incident in Twickenham, London is believed to have taken place on January 30, 2023 after a police officer was called to help handle a dispute over a taxi fare.

Initial reports suggested Kerr allegedly called the officer a “stupid white bastard”, however it was subsequently reported she called the police officer a “stupid white cop”. UK publication The Sun also claimed the Australian captain was “sick in the cab after a night out”.

This week, the 31-year-old appeared in Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST), charged with causing a police officer harassment, alarm or distress under the UK’s Public Order Act, as reported by 9News.

She is set to front the court again next month, with a trial before a jury slated for February 3.

Kerr has pleaded not guilty to the charges, with her lawyers arguing she did not “intend to cause alarm, harassment or distress to the officer” and that her behaviour “did not amount to it and it was not racially aggravated”, according to the AAP.

The football star is engaged to US footballer and West Ham player Kristie Mewis, with the pair expecting a child together this year.

She is currently nursing an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury she copped during a Women’s Super League leaders’ training camp in Morocco and has been off the pitch for both Chelsea and Tillies games since January 2024.

In an update last month, Chelsea FC coach Sonia Bompastor shared that Kerr remains on a modified recovery program.

“I would say Sam we are looking to maybe have back with us February, March, not before that,” Bompastor shared, per news.com.au.
