There were no wins for Sam Howell in Week 11, even off the field.
The Commanders’ quarterback threw three interceptions in the team’s 31-19 loss to the struggling Giants on Sunday and was forced to wear a Clemson hoodie in Washington’s news conference on Tuesday after losing a bet following North Carolina’s loss to Clemson on Saturday.
Howell, who spent three seasons as the Tar Heels quarterback from 2019 to ’21, failed to defeat the Tigers in his UNC tenure. On Saturday, he hoped the outcome would be different in a season where UNC at one point had a dream of playing in the College Football Playoff. The 23-year-old was not thrilled about wearing the hoodie.
“This is an unfortunate situation,” Howell said during the team’s news conference.
The Giants earned the season sweep against the Commanders (4-7) with Sunday’s win after Washington committed a total of six turnovers. The Commanders, which were hoping to re-enter the NFC playoff picture, took a step backward in their postseason aspiration.

While things seem bleak for the Washington, UNC (8-3) has already clinched bowl eligibility and will have a chance to redeem itself from the Clemson loss against rival NC State on Saturday. However, it is probably best that Howell refrains from placing any bets against his former team.
