Sam Heughan 'passionately proud' of Outlander as he scoops gong at BAFTAs

Outlander's Sam Heughan says he is "passionately proud" of the TV programme following his win at the Scottish BAFTA s on Sunday evening.

The 42-year-old scooped the Audience Award for his role as Jamie Fraser in the hit show, which is loved across the globe.

During a speech at Glasgow's DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, the actor said: "If you didn't know, Outlander is this wee show that started in 2012.

"In a tiny little abandoned electrics factory in Cumbernauld. We now call it Cumbernollywood."

Sam shared the video on Instagram to his 3.9million followers, which has been 115,000 times, with almost 3,000 comments.

He captioned the clip: "Passionately proud of @outlander_starz and all that it has brought to scotland! Delighted to be honoured by the fans @baftascotland ".

The star also revealed the the show has employed 2800 Scottish crew, 650 cast and 5,000 extras.

He added that 300 sets have been built from Pitlochry to Dumfries.
