Sam Heughan fans praise Outlander's return to screens - and they are all saying the same thing

Droughtlander is finally over and Sam Heughan fans couldn't be happier.

Sam, 41, plays Highland warrior Jamie Fraser alongside Caitriona Balfe as his onscreen wife in the TV adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's book series.

Viewers have had to wait two long years for the sixth installment of the hit historical romance series to come back after the shocking season five finale.

From teasers and cast interviews, we know that a big part of the sixth season will be Claire trying to recover from her horrific sexual assault which took place at the end of last season.

As well as the aftermath from Claire's assault, viewers will see Jamie face off against an old adversary in Thomas Christie who he met in prison.

The new series of Outlander premiered on Sunday night, and fans took to Twitter to praise the Dumfries actor.

One fan gushed: "The first 15 mins of #Outlander. 6E1 literally made me cry. @SamHeughan you fantastic human, how did you do those scenes man. Hearing the theme after ages and it still gives me goosebumps!! What a lovely first episode!"

Another buzzed: "Can we give a standing ovation to @SamHeughan 's powerful performance in Episode 1 of Season 6, PLEASE! No spoilers, but he knows #JAMMF deep down into his soul & it is amazing to watch. Damn, he's good!"

"Hi @SamHeughan & all @Outlande r fans. Have binge-watched the new @Outlander season 6 & it's terrific! Congrats to all concerned in front & behind cameras particularly heart-rending. Gathering supplies ready for another binge-watch! Eyes bit red! Love to all! Lady of Glencoex," said another.

Another user penned: "Sam was amazing. He's the protector of the Ridge & will no longer hold his tongue. It was comforting to see that he says what he thinks & not tolerate the BS of the army or the newcomers that bring demons with them to cause trouble."

" @SamHeughan @Outlander_STARZ My emotions when they start playing the theme song. Within the first 10 seconds of the episode, my soul was captivated. The story, the cast, the magic. Irreplaceable," said another.

One fan gushed: "The thrill and joy I got when the #Outlander theme song began to play!! Loved ep1....having all the familiar characters back!! Then there were #thefrasers up close and personal filling my screen"

Last night's episode gave hints at what is to come in the season, as we get hints towards Claire self-medicating after her assault.

As well as, the arrival of Tom Christie and his family to Fraser's Ridge alongside the general sense of dread of what is to come.

Outlander airs weekly on Sundays on Starz.
