Sam Heughan discusses 'bittersweet' end to Outlander

SCOTTISH actor Sam Heughan has said the ending of Outlander will be “bittersweet” as he reflected on his time on the hit show.

The first half of Outlander’s seventh season wrapped in August 2023, with the second part coming in 2024.

It is likely that the eighth and final season – which will consist of 10 episodes – will follow in 2025 although there are yet to be any official announcements made.

Speaking on The One Show, the Scottish actor said: “It’s bittersweet. It’s been eight seasons, this will be the eighth one. It’s been 10 years of my life.”

He added: “It’s just incredible and it’s been an amazing journey. But it’ll be sad to say goodbye to the ginger wig.”

Heughan plays Highland warrior Jamie Fraser in the hit show – which focuses on nurse Claire Randall as she is transported back in time to 18th century Scotland.

Although fans will no doubt be sad that the series is approaching its conclusion, a prequel series – Blood of My Blood – is soon to begin filming in Glasgow.

It will cover the love story of Heughan’s character’s parents Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.

Glasgow City Council has already provided an update on the filming locations and road closures as a result of production taking place in the city.

It comes following the release of several successful blockbusters which were filmed in Glasgow, including the latest Indiana Jones and Batman films.
