Sam Fender's local pub in North Shields' issues message of hope ahead of Brit Awards

A North Shields pub have expressed a message of good will to a homegrown hero, who has been nominated for a trilogy of prestigious Brit Awards ahead of tomorrow's glorious ceremony.

Sam Fender is a regular at the Low Lights Tavern on Brewhouse Bank, North Shields, and over the years before he found stardom he spent many a night in the pub with friends and family - building a budding rapport with bar staff and owners alike.

So much so, that he has promised to gift an honourable Brit Award to the establishment, should he be successful in his endeavours.

And this is not the first time that the Seventeen Going Under star has given back to a boozer that he is so fond of, having already kindly handed over a replica of his Critic's Choice Award he received in 2019.

The award has since been turned into a beer pump, so that music fans and visiting parties alike can have a pint pulled directly from the trophy itself.

Fast forward three years, and Sam finds himself once again nominated for a selection of coveted awards.

The Shields-based singer-songwriter is up for Artist Of The Year and Rock/Alternative Act Of The Year at tomorrow's (8 February) event while his second album Seventeen Going Under could take home Album Of The Year - if it bests Adele, Dave, Ed Sheeran, and Little Simz's efforts respectively.

The local lad will also be performing at the ceremony itself, sharing the stage with the likes of Liam Gallagher, Doja Cat and KSI.

And with the backing of the region behind him, many in the local area want to see Sam come home with a variety of new accolades.

Manager at the Low Lights Tavern, Lynsey Guthrie, said: "Obviously I hope he wins and that he does very, very well.

"We're very proud of him."

She added: "He won the Critic's Choice Award a couple of years ago, and they made a replica - so we've already got that at the pub at the minute.

"So he's said this year if he wins the real one he's going to give it to the pub.

"If he wins - which I'm sure he'll win one at least - we're just going to put it on one of the real ale pumps.

"We might end up with all of them, we never know eh?"

The Low Lights Tavern is officially regarded as the oldest pub in North Shields - believed to have been an alehouse for over 400 years. It now stands as a free house with at least five guest ales continuously pouring from taps.

The Brit Awards takes place tomorrow evening at 8pm at the O2 Arena in London, and will be exclusively broadcast on ITV and the ITV Hub.
