Sam Fender recreates iconic PJ and Duncan Byker Grove paintball scene to thank Ant and Dec

Sam Fender paid tribute to an iconic moment in Geordie entertainment to thank Ant and Dec for following him on social media.

Brit Award winner Sam, from North Shields, was so thrilled to find the presenters and former Byker Grove actors following him on Twitter, that he filmed a homage to their most famous Byker Grove scene: when Ant's Byker Grove character PJ was shot in the face by yellow paintballs and blinded.

Byker Grove turns 30 this year and Sam, 24, wouldn't have been alive when PJ and Dec's early-90s  alter ego Duncan were stars of the show - but that didn't stop the singer from hilariously recreating the clip with his mates, on a day where they were shooting paint at t-shirts to add a unique touch to Sam's merchandise.

Posting the video on Instagram , Sam wrote: "We made a video to honour the moment  @antanddec  followed me on Twitter. We recreated the tragic scene where PJ gets blinded in Byker Grove!

Ant and Dec sent Sam their seal of approval.

They tweeted: "First a BRIT award, next stop a BAFTA".

The singer will be playing on home turf in July, when Sam headlines Mouth of the Tyne Festival's opening date on Thursday, July 11. Tickets sold out in record-time.
