Sam Fender forced to halt St James' Park gig due to technical issue midway through set

Sam Fender's opening night at St James' Park wasn't without an unwanted interruption as the man of the moment had to call a brief halt to proceedings due to a technical issue, before going onto deliver a night that his fans will never forget.

Months after tickets for both dates at NUFC's famous ground were snapped up in quick succession, Sam and his band took to the stage in front of a capacity crowd for the first of two gigs in the city. Some fans even camped out over night to get a prime spot near the front, as others took advantage of the sunshine and had pints in the sun in the hours running up to the doors opening.

After supports acts like Holly Humberstone and Inhaler warmed everyone up, Sam as many fans hoped for and predicted, walked on stage to a rousing rendition of Local Hero, only this time it was introduced with a quick burst of Blaydon Races, on the same night that the famous race took place and was rounded off by a very timely segment of the Champions League theme.

Sam's St James' Park setlist kicked off with Will We Talk, before going into Getting Started and Dead Boys but, not long into proceedings, Sam announced that he'd need to take 'a five minute break' after something went wrong on stage, joking: "That's all you need...on the biggest night of your life," as tens of thousands of fans were left wondering what the issue was.

True to his word, Sam returned not long after to continue on with a show that, as well as having confetti, pyrotechnics and fireworks, had real passion, heart and plenty of Geordie love, as the man of the hour delivered a blistering set that ended with Seventeen Going Under and Hypersonic Missiles.
