Sam Fender apologises to fans for calling Johnny Depp his 'hero' after Amber Heard trial

Sam Fender has publicly apologised to his fans after he called Johnny Depp his 'hero'.

The singer made the announcement after he enjoyed a pint with the famous Hollywood actor and guitarist Jeff Beck earlier this week at The Bridge Tavern in Newcastle.

During their boozy evening at the pub, Sam uploaded a selfie with Johnny on his Instagram - which he has since deleted.

The snap was taken before Johnny won his defamation case against ex wife Amber Heard.

Fans criticised Sam for posting it on his social media - and he has now sent an apology to his followers.

He wrote: "I want to apologise. I was invited to briefly meet a musical legend and an actor who has been in almost every film I've watched growing up.

"I went – we chatted music and without thinking I took a photo and posted it as it was pretty surreal.

"Using the word 'heroes' was meant in reference to their careers, but in the context of the trial was severely misinformed.

"I now realise that it was a poor choice of words and timing, but that's irrelevant. It was naive and disrespectful to those who relate to any of the issues highlighted in the trial and the broader issues it poses. I didn't think it through and I should have."

He concluded: "I can't really say anything other than that it was ill-judged and I was ignorant with regards to the trials as a whole, and thoughtless on what my post could imply.

"I realise this entirely and for that I am deeply sorry. Sam."

On Wednesday, Johnny smiled and waved to fans outside his hotel in Gateshead after joining Jeff Beck's tour full-time.

He looked in good spirits after winning his multi-million dollar US defamation trial against Amber.

Johnny was seen leaving the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead where he was staying with his entourage and arrived at the Sage ahead of his performance at the venue.

The Hollywood actor was shielded by security as he left a back entrance, where he was taken the short distance to the Sage in a silver people carrier.

Eager fans rushed after the actor after he emerged from the vehicle, where he turned and waved to the crowd.
