Wales fly-half Sam Davies has confirmed he won't be moving to Cardiff next season as he hit back at a Welsh rugby supporter on social media.
The nine-cap outside-half will leave the Dragons at the end of this season, with French club Grenoble understood to be the front-runner for the 29-year-old's signature. However, with Jarrod Evans moving to Harlequins next season and Rhys Priestland considering retirement, Cardiff are also in the market for a fly-half and were understandably linked with a move for Davies.
But after one Cardiff supporter on social media took issue with the possible signature of the former Ospreys playmaker, Davies responded by suggesting that would not be materialising.
"Ioan Lloyd can play 10 and he’s gone to the Scarlets when we are desperate for a 10," wrote a Cardiff fan on Twitter. "If we end up with Sam Davies, I’m gonna be so p****d off."
Replying to the tweet, Davies said "not to worry it won’t be me," adding a crying with laughter emoji face, before adding "hopefully that puts your mind at ease".
Cardiff had already poured some scorn on a move for Davies last week, as the Arms Park continue to be linked with fly-halves ahead of Evans' departure. Former Cardiff 10 Rhys Patchell, set to leave the Scarlets this summer, is another to be linked.
However, Cardiff boss Dai Young said: "I think it's difficult because right across the global market, everyone is tightening things. There's always a market for quality players.
"There's always a market for young players. It's the players in the middle that get squeezed because everyone wants to keep their best players and youngsters. Unfortunately there will be a lot of players out of work.
"People have said to us that we're losing Jarrod Evans, which is unfortunate and disappointing. But then they start chucking names about which will cost the same as Jarrod Evans. I don't know why would we do that.
"Lose Jarrod Evans and go get someone who costs more than him. The only reason those boys are going is because of the way the budget is, we can't afford to keep them. What we have to look at is if we can find a few gems who can play at those type of levels."
