Saltwell Park fireworks to return with a Bonfire Night spectacular after two year absence

One of the region's biggest and most popular fireworks displays will be making a comeback in November after an absence of two years.

Saltwell Park Fireworks, which traditionally attracts crowds of around 30,000, will return with a huge Bonfire Night celebration including a laser show, live music and fairground rides. Tickets are on sale now for the Gateshead event which will feature added entertainment and food and drink stalls.

It will take place in the Victorian park on Bonfire Night itself, November 5, and is set to be warmly welcomed back by families who have missed their traditional outing to the display which last took place in 2019. Having been cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic, it again was called off last year due to concerns over Covid cases which were on the rise at the time.

The park's fireworks, always accompanied by a giant bonfire, used to be a free event, run by Gateshead Council until its takeover by Metro Radio some years ago which brought live music and added entertainment to the mix. This time it will be including a laser light show, a DJ set, street performers and a dance show.

A statement from the radio station promised a "huge" Fireworks Spectacular and a "huge" fairground alongside the dazzling display, saying "2022 is set to be bigger and better than ever". The event will open at 5pm on the night and the fireworks display will get under way at 7.30pm.

Tickets to go along cost £7 plus a 25p donation to the Cash for Kids charity which the radio station supports. To buy tickets see here.

Once booked, an email of confirmation will be sent in return and this must be presented at the gate on the night to gain entry. Alternatively the email’s QR code can be shown on a phone screen which will be scanned by security staff.
