Salford's new ceremonial mayor determined to 'give back' to hospice

The new ceremonial mayor of Salford has nominated to support a charity close to her heart.

Councillor Gina Reynolds selected St Ann's Hospice as her chosen charity, where the partnership will start with a committee meeting on 14 June to start planning fundraising events for the upcoming months.

The charity, which provides specialist care for people impacted by life-limiting illnesses, including patients, families and loved ones, helped support Gina's mum and auntie who both passed peacefully at St Ann's Hospice.

Gina said: ‘’This wonderful charity is close to my heart and very personal to me. Sadly, both my mum and auntie passed away peacefully at St Ann’s Hospice. They received excellent end-of-life care and I was provided with fantastic support from the caring staff. I can’t thank them enough and wanted to give something back.’’

On 21 May, members of St Ann's Hospice met the ceremonial mayor during the Civic Sunday Parade and Service - starting at the Town Hall, Civic Centre and headed towards St Peter’s Church in Swinton - to celebrate the ceremonial event.

Lucy Leeming, Fundraising Manager at St Ann’s Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be chosen by the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford Cllr Gina Reynolds as one of her selected charities during her term of office.

“We feel honoured to have the opportunity to work with Madam Mayor and her charity committee to raise vital funds and awareness for St Ann’s Hospice. We cannot wait to get started and help put together some exciting plans. Thank you so much to Madam Mayor.”

The Ceremonial Mayor is also supporting START – Inspiring Minds and Agnes Hopkins Community Centre during her term in office.
