The Kings Arms in Salford is among the pubs up for gongs at this year’s Great British Pub Awards. The pub, previously owned by Housemartins singer Paul Heaton, has been shortlisted in the Best Pub for Entertainment category.
It’s up against pubs in Kent, Gloucestershire and Staffordshire, as well as The Saddle in Chester. The pub, off Chapel Street and dubbed ‘Britain’s most bohemian back-street boozer’, has long been known for its live music, comedy, poetry and other entertainment.
In the Best Pub for Families category, the Puss in Boots in Davenport is up for an award, alongside pubs in Dorset, Gloucestershire, Nottinghamshire and Middlesex. Meanwhile, the Coal and Cotton pub in Worsley is up for the Community Hero category.

On the edge of the North West, the Coach & Horses near Clitheroe is up for the Best Pub for Food award.
“Huge congratulations to all the finalists,” said Ed Bedington, the editor of The Morning Advertiser, which is behind the annual event. “The tough judging process is always difficult due to the high standard of pubs that enter.
“However, those decisions have now been made, and we have a very strong list of finalists that will be in the running to take the title of each of the categories, with one exceptional winner going on to be crowned Great British Pub of the Year.”
The awards ceremony is set to take place at Escape To Freight Island in Manchester on October 4.
