Sale of Dumfries and Galloway island attracts global interest

The sale of an island off the Stewartry coast has attracted interest from across the world.

Barlocco Island in Fleet Bay was put up for sale in April, with the sellers looking for offers over £150,000.

And people far and wide have expressed interest in the uninhabited island, with Galbraith, which is handling the sale, setting a closing date of Tuesday of this week for bids.

A spokesman said: “We are delighted to have set a closing date for Barlocco Island after a huge amount of interest from within Scotland and the UK as well as from Norway, Italy, Germany and the United States.

“Dumfries and Galloway is known for its beautiful scenery, extensive south-facing coastline and low population density.

“The island offers a wonderful sense of tranquillity and connection to nature which is highly valued as an escape from the stresses of hectic day to day lives.”

There are no buildings on the island but people could enjoy bird watching, island walks and sea angling, as well as a private pebble beach.

Anyone missing out on Barlocco may be tempted to buy a property on another “isle” nearby.

Isle Gardens House can be found on the St Mary’s Isle peninsula on the outskirts of Kirkcudbright.

The three-bedroom property, which sits within a walled garden, is in need of substantial upgrading. It is for sale at offers over £425,000 and also comes with a sizable portion of land.

Marion Currie, handling the sale for Galbraith, said: “The opportunity to acquire this property and particular piece of ground is unique, as it has been in the same family as part of their estate for generations. This sale should appeal to those keen to embrace a rural lifestyle whilst offering the potential to create your very own grand design bespoke property.

“Being located on a small peninsula offers a sense of tranquillity and a high degree of privacy in a beautiful part of Dumfries and Galloway.

“It offers the ideal base to explore the great outdoors as well as perhaps partake in some wild water swimming close by, yet the amenities offered by Kirkcudbright are literally minutes away.”
