Saints signed TE JP Holtz

Offense has not been a big focus in free agency for the New Orleans Saints with several moves being made on the defensive side of the ball. However, the Saints brought in their second outside free agent on offense today with the signing of former Chicago Bears tight end J.P. Holtz as first reported by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill and confirmed by the team.
While Holtz is officially listed as a tight end, he has also lined up at fullback since he came into the league in 2016. He took his first regular season snaps in 2019 after spending time on the Browns’ practice squad and as a reserve for Washington. Despite being one of the Saints’ few offensive additions this offseason, his experience expands beyond one element of the game.
Holtz has also been a steady contributor on special teams, taking over 100 combined snaps with the kickoff and punt return units as well as serving as a blocker on field goal tries and extra point attempts. Holtz is a versatile player despite not being much of a receiver throughout his career (7 career catches on just 9 targets) who will give the Saints some depth during training camp in several important areas.
