Saints QB Derek Carr Considered ‘Week to Week’ Due to Shoulder Injury

Saints coach Dennis Allen said Monday that quarterback Derek Carr has a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder and his status is considered “week to week.”

Carr was injured in the third quarter of Sunday’s 18–17 loss to the Packers. He was wrapped up by Green Bay’s Rashan Gary, flipped over and thrown down hard onto the field. Nevertheless, Carr was able to walk off the field without assistance. The Saints later ruled him out of the game due to a shoulder injury, and he was evaluated at a hospital in Green Bay.

“I think we dodged a bullet there in terms of anything of real significance,” Allen said in Monday’s press conference. “I think we’re kind of saying week to week. He felt better today than he did yesterday. We’re not making any decisions today. We’re not ruling anything out. We’ll see where he’s at as the week goes on.”

Through three starts with New Orleans, Carr has completed 65.5% of his pass attempts for 636 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions.

The Saints are scheduled to play host to the Buccaneers at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston replaced Carr on Sunday and likely will get the start if Carr is ruled out for the Week 4 matchup.
