The New Orleans Saints need to improve their offensive line this offseason and don’t have many assets to work with. They could potentially look for a discount in the trade market and take a chance on a struggling player.
That is exactly what David Lantham of Last Word On Sports envisions, as he suggested the Saints call up the Houston Texans about former first round pick Kenyon Green this offseason. This is what Lantham had to say about the player:
Green started 14 games as a rookie, but his ability to see the field did not translate to success. The rookie’s 37.7 PFF grade was the worst in the league among 77 eligible players, and while PFF grades aren’t gospel, nobody disagreed with their assessment in this case. After missing all of 2023 with a shoulder injury, the guard tried to redeem himself in 2024. Unfortunately, he had another rough season, finishing the year with a 38.6 PFF grade, the 74th-best mark of 75 eligible players.
Green was the No. 15 overall selection in the 2022 NFL draft. Something that New Orleans has been all too familiar with, he has struggled for much of the start of his career. Perhaps they can be the team that he goes to and breaks out rather than vice versa, though.
It is a bit of an understatement to say that he has struggled, to be fair. Pro Football Focus has him allowing 75 pressures in just 875 career pass blocking snaps, that is an unacceptable rate for a starting guard in the NFL. He must have some talent inside to unlock though, given that he was a first round pick in the first place. It doesn’t always get found, but it might be worth a look for a flier.
