Saints LG Andrus Peat carted off with ankle injury, questionable to return vs. Browns

Things went from bad to worse for the New Orleans Saints offense early in Saturday’s game with the Cleveland Browns. They were already missing starting right guard Cesar Ruiz, who is done for the season with a Lisfranc foot injury. But then starting left guard Andrus Peat left the game on a trainer’s cart with an ankle injury. The Saints announced that he was questionable to return.

That’s tough. Peat has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and the reduced depth along the Saints offensive line in this game makes his absence even more difficult to deal with. His usual backup, Calvin Throckmorton, was starting in Ruiz’s spot at right guard. That put backup center Josh Andrews into the game — who was just elevated from the practice squad. Another backup guard, Lewis Kidd, was inactive for Saturday’s game. That really limited their options.

Hopefully Peat isn’t dealing with a serious injury. We’ll await word from the team on whether he can return.
