Saints’ Derek Carr Replaced by Jameis Winston After Brutal Body Slam vs. Packers

In a scary moment during Sunday’s Week 2 NFL matchup between the Saints and Packers, quarterback Derek Carr took a brutal hit which resulted in him being down and immediately receiving attention from trainers. With New Orleans up 17-0 in the third quarter, Carr was wrapped up by Green Bay’s Rashan Gary, flipped over and thrown down hard onto the field.

Carr immediately appeared to be in a ton of pain, and tried to get up at one point but stayed down on the field. Here’s a look at the play which Carr was injured on, followed by the scene after the Saints signal-caller went down.

Fortunately, as Fox showed on the broadcast, Carr was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Shortly after Carr left the field and went back to the locker room, he was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a shoulder injury, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Prior to the injury, Carr had completed 13-of-18 passes for 103 yards and one touchdown while leading the Saints out to a big halftime lead.
