Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady completed a virtual interview with the New Orleans Saints this week, the team announced Friday evening. Brady is the latest in a series of head coach candidates meeting with the team to make their case for the full-time job, along with interim head coach Darren Rizzi and other outside candidates like Aaron Glenn, Anthony Weaver, and Mike Kafka.
Brady is a popular pick for the job among Saints fans given his history; he previously worked on Sean Payton’s staff as an offensive assistant before going up the road to join the LSU Tigers, where he conducted their offense in a 2019 campaign which ended with a national championship. Now he’s got the Bills in the thick of the AFC playoff race.
NFL rules dictate these first interviews with candidates under contract with other teams must be limited to virtual meetings over video calls. But because Brady has already had his, he can meet with the Saints in person as soon as Monday, Jan. 20 if the Bills are eliminated in this weekend’s game with the Baltimore Ravens. That isn’t the case for other candidates who haven’t already spoken with the Saints virtually like Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who must start the whole process later than his competition. So the question is whether Brady earns a callback. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reports the virtual interview “went well” but that’s often the case with these things. Stay tuned.
