Saint Peter’s guard Doug Edert surprised his teammates and coach with his Kobe Bryant-like celebration

Every good Cinderella story needs a great character. Someone who wears their heart on their sleeve while being a little weird (in a good way). Someone who brings energy and quality skill to an ongoing all-time sports moment. Someone who brings the underdog story to life.

For No. 15 seed Saint Peter’s — who’s on a men’s NCAA tournament run for the ages — that character has to be Doug Edert.

After their latest shocking tournament win on Friday night, this time in the Sweet 16 over Purdue, Edert couldn’t contain himself. The junior guard simply had to go wild with joy at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. So much so that in the postgame chaos, he jumped on the scorer’s table, and none of his Peacock teammates knew about it.

You did what, Doug?

His coach didn’t seem impressed:

Too funny.

Hey, we’ve all been there, right? You get so worked up, so excited, you almost lose control over any rational thought.

You’re invincible! You’re on top of the world! You’re so happy, you might even forget where you are for a minute!

Edert, we’re right there with you, buddy. And I know your teammates are always in your corner, as much as they’re surprised by what the thrill of the moment can bring out in you.
