A quarter of Brits claim the first BBQ of the year officially marks the start of summer, beating the first afternoon in a beer garden and the first picnic, according to research from Sainsbury’s.
Last week the supermarket revealed sales of BBQ products, including burgers and sausages, spiked by almost 24% compared to the same week last year. With parts of the UK set to hit 27 degrees this weekend, Sainsbury’s predicts these staples will continue to soar, with over 800,000 burgers due to fly off the shelves over the coming days.
Last week, Sainsbury’s opened the first ever bookable BBQ space on London’s South Bank, helping those who don’t have the outside space to host.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Summer is a time for celebration and getting together with friends and family to enjoy delicious food. But for those who don’t have access to outside space at home, that doesn’t mean they should miss out on BBQ flavours. That’s why we focused on smoky flame-cooking and Mediterranean flavours for our latest summer range, ensuring everyone has the chance to enjoy the delicious taste of BBQ food with or without the outdoor grill.”
Sainsbury’s new summer range is available in store and online now, with over 150 brand new products from just £1.15.
