Sainsbury's petrol station cordoned off after car crashes into pump

Emergency services scrambled to a Sainsbury's petrol station after a car crash.

At around 2.25pm, police received a report of a crash at at Sainsbury's petrol station on Duck Pond Lane, Prenton.

Officers from Merseyside Fire and Rescue and Merseyside Police attended the scene to find a three car crash at the petrol station.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene and the fuel pumps were isolated. The petrol station was also closed and cordoned off.

No one was trapped in any of the vehicles and only minor injuries were reported, no ambulances or medical treatment were required at the scene, Merseyside Fire and Rescue said.

One of the petrol pump was damaged but there was no leakage.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: "Fire crews were called to a road traffic collision involving three cars at a petrol station this afternoon.

"Crews were alerted at 2.27pm and on scene at 2.31pm, with two fire engines in attendance.

"Crews arrived to find three cars involved, all on all four wheels, fuel pumps were isolated and the petrol station was closed and cordoned off.

"No people were trapped in any of the vehicles and only minor injuries were reported, no ambulances or medical treatment were required at the scene.

"One petrol pump was damaged but there was no leakage. Merseyside Police were also in attendance providing assistance at the scene."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 2.25pm we received a report of a collision at Sainsbury’s petrol station on Duck Pond Lane, Prenton.

"It was reported that a blue Nissan was in collision with a petrol pump and two other vehicles.

"No injuries have been reported."
