Customers at more than 300 Sainsbury's stores can now order their home-delivery shopping in an easier way than ever before: via delivery specialist Deliveroo. The supermarket giant has confirmed it's added 65 stores to its partnership with Deliveroo, bringing the total number of stores involved in the popular Sainsbury's-Deliveroo scheme to 336.
The scheme, which allows customers to order their shopping online or via the app and receive their delivery in 20 minute or more has now been expanded to Winchester, Marlow, Barking, Loughborough, Watford and Lancaster stores and more, reported Grocery Gazette.
Matthew Roberts, head of digital strategy at Sainsbury's, said: "With more and more shoppers looking for convenient and affordable food and grocery products from Sainsbury's delivered to their doors, we're pleased to be expanding our partnership with Deliveroo to even more locations, helping to make it as quick and easy as possible for our customers to shop with us."
The announcement comes as Sainsbury's confirms it's working to substantially cut down its use of plastic packaging. Instead of a plastic bag enveloping the bananas, bunches of bananas will be held together with a paper band at all Sainsbury's stores from May 22, 2022 . This will save 25 million single-use plastic bags, equivalent to 75 tonnes of plastic, the supermarket said.
Plus, Sainsbury's will cut its plastic use further across various ranges in the coming months. Among the plans, the chain will remove plastic lids from all of its salad and coleslaw ranges and change its nut butter packaging to glass packaging, as well as upgrading from double-strength bottles of fruit squash to quadruple-strength bottles of fruit squash - meaning only a quarter of a typical serving needs be used for a glass of squash and helping each bottle last far longer than previously. From June, Sainsbury's will also reduce the use of plastic film it its bags of grated cheese and across its dessert cheesecakes.
