Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Aldi to close hundreds of UK stores this Easter

A number of leading supermarkets have announced that they will close stores come Easter Sunday - with hundreds of locations across Great Britain affected.

Sainsbury's has revealed that shutters will be pulled on 600 larger stores across England and Wales - with Aldi announcing the same action for 890 outlets. Morrisons is also set to close it's bigger superstores for the day come April 9.

UK Law covering England and Wales stipulates that stores with larger retail than 280 square meters must not operate on Easter Sunday, as well as on Christmas Day - however, smaller convenience stores will be allowed to stay open as normal.

The Mirror reports that meanwhile in Scotland, which is governed under different rules, larger stores will be able to also operate in a usual fashion. All of the aforementioned UK supermarkets are set to open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday - but it's worth checking your local shop to see if they have any special hours of operation in place across the Bank Holiday.

Other supermarkets are also yet to release their Easter schedule, and it's again worth checking online to see if they update customers with changes closer to the time.
