Sainsbury's issues urgent Nectar card update to every customer

Sainsbury's has revealed that it will be introducing a major change that will affect all Nectar card customers.

The loyalty card enables consumers to collects points from retailers and companies across the country, such as Argos, British Airways, VUE Cinemas, and, of course, Sainsbury's.

The news announced by the supermarket giant regarding Nectar cards will mark a welcome change for many shoppers.

Sainsbury's announced that a brand new Nectar Donate initiative will allow customers to donate points to charities such as Alzheimer’s Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Every point donated will be converted into real money that will fund the chosen charity — with no additional fees.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, 200 points — the minimum amount able to be donated — is equal to £1.

This is the same value as what Nectar points are worth if you were to spend them in stores at Sainsbury's.

You obtain a single Nectar point for every £1 spent, with one Nectar point worth 0.5p in return.

This means if you earn one point from a purchase it's the equivalent of 0.5% cashback.

Nectar Donate is provided in partnership with Crowdfunder and is available to use any time on the Nectar digital app.

In order to donate, shoppers need to make a Crowdfunder account and link it to their Nectar account.

After this, they will be free to donate points to any charity available.

Nectar head of loyalty and CRM Alex Naisby said: “We’re proud to have teamed up with Crowdfunder to launch Nectar Donate, a new and simple way for customers to support the charities and causes they really care about with their Nectar points.

“Our customers have always been extremely generous whenever we have run charity donation campaigns in the past and we know many of them are interested in supporting local charities.

“So, whether it’s donating those forgotten points or a bank of saved-up points, we’re making it even easier for customers to turn their Nectar points into positivity.”

Simon Deverell, founder and creative Director at Crowdfunder said: "Nectar Donate gives charities the opportunity to benefit from Nectar customers donating their points to good causes.

"At a time when charities have suffered massively due to the pandemic and donors have felt the pinch, this amazing partnership creates an entirely new way for people to give to, and fundraise for, the causes they care about."
