Sainsbury's introduces £2 fruit and vegetable boxes, aiming to reduce food waste

Popular supermarket Sainsbury's has launched a new £2 fruit and veg box in a bid to reduce food waste and be more environmentally conscious.

The boxes, named 'Taste Me, Don't Waste Me', will be made available in over 200 selected supermarkets nationwide, according to the Grocer. The launch follows a successful trial last month, where the products were carefully selected to ensure freshness.

The boxes include a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables sold at a more affordable price amid the rising cost of living crisis. Customers will be able to find the boxes in the fresh produce aisle of Sainsbury's.

This environmental move is part of the retailer's aims to halve their food waste across its value chain by 2030. In recent times, Sainsbury's have also removed best before dates on more than 100 product lines, with over 130 lines still to be added.

Sainsbury’s director of fresh food Richard Crampton said: "At Sainsbury’s we’re committed to helping our customers access tasty, nutritious food that’s better for them and the planet too.

“It’s great to see shoppers have been enjoying the boxes, which is why we’re really pleased to roll out the trial to over 200 supermarkets, helping even more people across the country.”

He added: “We believe everyone deserves to eat well at an affordable price, and we hope this additional support will ensure good-quality food doesn’t go to waste."
