Sainsbury's apologises as West Bridgford petrol station 'temporarily closed' as it runs out of fuel

Sainsbury's has apologised after it "temporarily closed" its petrol station in West Bridgford. There was a no fuel sign in the forecourt in Melton Road on Monday, April 4.

There was no fuel at three petrol stations around the West Bridgford area on April 4 - at Gamston Morrison's, Sainsbury's in Melton Road and Asda in Loughborough Road in West Bridgford. It comes after a number of stations reported a shortage amid protests at oil depots across the UK.

On Monday evening [April 4], a spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "Our West Bridgford Melton Road petrol filling station is temporarily closed. We’ll reopen as soon as we can and we’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

Last month, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a 5p cut in fuel duty until March 2023 in his Spring Statement. Despite this, some motorists in Nottingham were forced to go to other stations to fill up after learning of the closures.

Asda and Morrisons have been approached for further comment
